As the Prepress Technician my job was to deconstruct the client files and figure out how they were built.  It was a bit of reverse engineering with a touch of Sherlock Holmes.  Once the files were cleaned up, I would get them print ready and burn the color plates, later to be passed on to the pressman.  

 

Other key responsibilites included, but not limited to...

• Preflight and troubleshot client files to validate production requirements.

• Built and prepared print files for offset plate output or digital printing. Implemented type, color and layout adjustments and corrections as needed.

• Checked traps to ensure proper registration.

• Created proof files for customer review and approval prior to printing.

• Engineered packaging through die lines and in house paperboard print mock-ups to ensure functionality.

• Multitasked between digital printing, plate making, creating custom dies, creating virtual proofs and dealing with the pressmen.
